An an appetizer to Santigold’s newest album, “99¢,“ set to come out on Friday, February 26, the singer has released an innovative music video for the track “Can’t Get Enough of Myself.” The video, which is the first of it’s kind, uses the front facing camera found on most computers and phones to incorporate the viewer into the set. The video takes the idea of pop culture’s fascination with looking at and editing their own image. While watching on a Chrome browser or on Santigold’s app, the viewer is taken around New York City for the day, appearing on a coffee cup, newspaper headline, and billboard, in real time. You can become the star by visiting this link using a Chrome browser.
Filmed mainly in the Soho area, Santigold created this one of a kind video with a team of people including directors Sam Fleischner and herself. It was conceptualized and digitally developed by Yung Jake and Vince Mckelvie and the mobile app was developed by Bryan Yee. The video is supposed to represent a day in the life, while also bringing to the forefront society’s obsession with all things self.
Santigold has recently announced a North American spring tour, titled the “We Buy Gold Tour.” While on it, she will sing tracks from “99¢” which has been produced with collaborators Patrik Berger, Rostam Batmanglij, Hit-Boy, HazeBanga, Justin Raisen, Zeds Dead, ILOVEMAKONNEN, and Sam Dew and longtime cohorts John Hill, Dave Sitek, and Doc McKinney. The result is the bright and big sound of “99¢” that takes the genre-defying fearlessness Santigold has become known for to new places.
