Shakira achieved the highest chart debut and chart rank of her career when her album Shakira hit #2 on the Billboard 200. The album also secured the #1 spot on the iTunes Chart release week in 69 countries, including the U.S. The multi-platinum, 2X Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter worked with an impressive list of collaborators on the release including producer John Hill who is known for his work with Santigold, Jay-Z and The Vaccines and Greg Kurstin who has previously worked with P!nk, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry.

The success of the album’s debut is in line with Shakira’s previous successes. Over the course of her career, Colombian singer-songwriter and Grammy winner Shakira has sold over 60 million records worldwide. She is the only artist from South America to have a number one song in the US, and has had four of the 20 top-selling hits of the last decade. And- you probably didn’t know this, but Shakira was named a member of President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. This Latina lady has been super busy!

The album is available physically and digitally, with a deluxe edition the CD sold exclusively at Target stores. In the meantime if you’re craving a dose of Shakira without paying a dime you can hop over to VEVO to check out the music video for her new single “Empire,” which has already reached over 13 million views. We’re thinking that the wedding gown and Shakira being literally “on fire” has something to do with that.  If wedding gowns aren’t your thing then check out “Can’t Remember to Forget You” featuring Rihanna which has racked up even more views, it’s at 228 million at the moment. We recommend you watch both of them now… and then watch them again… and again…
