Another year, another accusation against Terry Richardson. We’ve heard handfuls of models anonymously speaking out about alleged sexual abuse by the hand of the famed photographer, but this time model Charlotte Waters is stepping out of anonymity.
Back in 2009, Charlotte Waters was an aspiring nude model who had an already impressive resume having had shot with Richard Kern. Wanting to broaden her horizons, Waters submitted a photo through Terry’s website in hopes of modeling for him and received a quick response. The model fully anticipated to be modeling nude but claims that the events that were to transpire were not in mind when she arrived at Richardson’s studio in New York City.
Waters was familiar with Richardson’s work when she sent her image in for the shoot, however she claims that she was not familiar with the photographer’s “hands on” approach. “Eventually all my clothes were off, and he’s still taking pictures. Then he comes over and asks me to hold the top of his jeans while he takes pictures pointing down. At this moment, things were starting to go in a direction that wasn’t good, but for some reason, I still had a lot of trust in whatever he told me to do, so I just did it. But then he had me unbutton his pants, and he took his penis out, and it was all completely downhill from there,” says Waters.
Richardson has come under fire in the past when models spoke out about what allegedly happens behind the closed doors of his studio. More frequently than not, models claim that Richardson begins their shoot in a very professional manner but eventually things take a turn for the worst. Every story seems to have the same ending… models feel like they’ve invested too much of themselves to the shoot to walk away once Terry’s pants open.
The allegations haven’t affected the photographer’s career as of yet; in the last 30 days he has shot with Kate Moss, RJ Mitte, his close friends Jared Leto and Lady GaGa, Elle Fanning, Lea Michele, Lebron James, and Jennifer Hudson – to name a few. Big names like Harper’s Bazaar, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tom Ford, and H&M still employ Richardson despite the allegations (although Equinox recently discontinued their association with him).
A change.org petition was created last year to urge the aforementioned companies to stop working with Terry. Charlotte Waters says that she hopes her story will make girls think twice before working with the photographer as well as shed light on the situation.
