The 2025 Tribeca Ball at the New York Academy of Art: A Celebration of Creativity, Legacy, and New Beginnings

On April 15, 2025, the New York Academy of Art hosted its highly anticipated annual Tribeca Ball, an event that not only celebrated emerging talent but also honored the longstanding leadership of David Kratz, the Academy’s former President. The evening, which was presented by Van Cleef & Arpels, offered a unique and immersive experience for guests, inviting them to explore the studios of the Academy’s 100 MFA students, engage in discussions about their work, and mingle with some of the art world’s most influential figures. Indira Cesarine, editor-in-chief of The Untitled Magazine, attended the event, adding her voice to the chorus of art enthusiasts and philanthropists who gathered to support the next generation of artists.

This year’s Tribeca Ball was a particularly momentous occasion as it also marked a milestone in the Academy’s history—the foundation of the David Kratz International Center. David Kratz’s departure at the end of 2024 after 15 years of service was met with heartfelt tributes at the Tribeca Ball. His vision and leadership were pivotal in shaping the Academy into the renowned institution it is today, fostering a dynamic environment for aspiring artists to develop their skills in both technique and critical thought.

In his honor, the Academy announced the creation of the David Kratz International Center. The Center will serve as a global hub for aspiring artists, offering opportunities such as artist residencies, student exchange programs, symposia, and exhibitions. The mission of the center is to connect the Academy with a network of international institutions and to foster creativity across cultural boundaries. Through these initiatives, the Academy aims to tell the stories of our rapidly changing world while supporting the next generation of visionaries.

The event was co-chaired by Michele & Tim Barakett, April Gornik & Eric Fischl, Brooke Shields & Chris Henchy, and several other distinguished patrons, with honorary chairs including Tracey Emin, Amy Sherald, and Mickalene Thomas. The evening was an elegant fusion of celebration and philanthropy, underscored by the spectacular support of the Academy’s longtime partner, Van Cleef & Arpels.

The New York Academy of Art’s Tribeca location provided a fitting venue for a night of art and celebration, with guests treated to a evening that included an exploration of student studios and conversations with the talented artists themselves. Among the many notable figures in attendance were artists, collectors, and patrons such as Brooke Shields, Liev Schreiber, Curtis Bashaw, and many others who came together to show their support for the Academy’s mission and its students.

The gala dinner, which followed the studio visits, was a vibrant gathering where attendees shared their passion for art and discussed the future of the New York Academy of Art and its initiatives, along with a benefit auction supporting the academy’s future programming. The event’s focus on community and creativity was amplified by the announcement of the new Center, ensuring that the Academy’s reach will continue to grow both locally and internationally.

The 2025 Tribeca Ball was not only a tribute to the incredible legacy of David Kratz but also a moment to look forward to the exciting future of the Academy.
