THE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW 2026: AIPAD EXPANDS WITH NEW SECTORS, TALKS, AND GLOBAL FOCUS
The Photography Show presented by AIPAD will return to the Park Avenue Armory in New York from April 22–26, 2026, marking the 45th edition of the longest-running exhibition dedicated to the photographic medium. Bringing together exhibitors from around the world, the fair continues its commitment to presenting historically significant works alongside contemporary experimentation that reflects the evolving language of photography.
This year’s edition introduces an expanded Photobooks + Partners sector, highlighting the ongoing relevance of publishing within photographic practice. Among the notable presentations, AIPAD member gallery Alta will present “Free Air and Beyond,” exploring the enduring collaboration between publisher Steidl and photographer Robert Frank. The exhibition pairs Frank’s iconic works with images by Clark Winter, offering a dialogue between legacy and contemporary perspectives.

The fair also debuts several new partnerships, including Adobe, which will present a panel examining innovation in lens-based media, and Getty Images, marking its first year with an exhibition drawn from the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Collection, curated with 2026 AIPAD Award recipient Deborah Willis. Proceeds from print sales will support the preservation of HBCU photographic archives through the Getty Images Photo Archives Grants Program.
Programming remains central to the fair, anchored by the AIPAD Talks series, which will take place across the public days in the Armory’s historic Veterans Room. Opening highlights include a conversation between Deborah Willis and Aperture Senior Editor Brendan Embser, reflecting on her influence as an artist, scholar, and curator.

Additional panels explore the evolving role of photography across disciplines. “Interventions in Photography” examines contemporary image-making processes, from traditional darkroom techniques to AI-assisted workflows, while “From Concept to Feature” brings together creative directors from major publications to discuss how photography shapes editorial narratives.
The program also situates photography within broader cultural and historical contexts. Conversations such as “America at 250/Divergent Realities” consider how images construct and challenge national narratives, while discussions on portraiture, identity, and self-representation reflect ongoing dialogues around visibility and authorship in the digital age.

AIPAD’s commitment to emerging voices is further emphasized through the Aperture Portfolio Prize, which will be awarded at the fair for the first time. The five finalists will be featured in a dedicated exhibition, offering a platform for new perspectives within contemporary photography.
Beyond exhibitions and talks, the fair continues to integrate interactive and community-driven initiatives. NYC Salt students will return with a portrait project inspired by Irving Penn and Richard Avedon, providing hands-on experience for young photographers while documenting participants across the fair.

New additions such as the Focal Point sector further expand the fair’s scope, presenting solo projects that examine how artists have historically redefined photography while continuing to push its boundaries today. Designed to create dynamic sightlines and encourage dialogue, the sector underscores AIPAD’s focus on both legacy and forward-looking practices within the medium.
As photography continues to intersect with technology, publishing, and cultural discourse, The Photography Show presented by AIPAD positions itself as a key platform for examining the medium’s past, present, and future—bringing together artists, collectors, curators, and audiences in one of New York’s most iconic venues.
