MoMA PS1 is once again collaborating with New York nightlife legend Susanne Bartsch for the seventh annual Halloween Ball. Up&Down is to be transformed into a trippy, creepy version of Alice in Wonderland. The upstairs will be flooded with black lights and have a psychedelic feel incorporating the elements from the mad hatter, caterpillar, and creative interpretations from when she initially goes down the rabbit hole – oversized mushrooms, neon flowers, vines, and cartoonish trees. Downstairs will be focused on the Queen of Hearts, with hedges, oversized hearts, roses, and other regal items.
Dance of the Dead @ 1 OAK

For “Dance of the Dead”, 1 OAK draws inspiration from 70s disco monster mashes and will be finding its creepy element from the iconic prom scene in the horror movie, Carrie.
Think of a chic prom dance meets a 70’s disco monster mash. The room will be decorated with disco balls and glitter as if there was a glamorous dance being held, but went south with splattered blood, body parts, etc.

Roosevelt Island (1841) – Across the river from Sapphire, the New York City Lunatic Asylum opened, housing over 1,700 patients in its 800 cells. In the early 1900s a journalist exposed the unacceptable conditions, causing SOME of the patients to transfer to Rikers Island. What happened to the rest? This Halloween everyone will get a glimpse as Sapphire’s renowned weekly party, SINS, presents the remains of the New York City Lunatic Asylum.

Celebrating two committed leaders and dear friends of NYRP (Mica Ertegün and Darcy Stacom), this year’s intergalactic extravaganza will feature a costume contest judged by fashion icon and NYRP Trustee Michael Kors, a performance by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Managing and Artistic Director (and nine-time Grammy Award-winner) Wynton Marsalis and his Octet, a parody number performed by NYRP founder Bette Midler (along with her Tony-Award winning Hello, Dolly! co-star Gavin Creel), and other supernova surprises, this Hulaween is not to be missed!
