THE UNTITLED PODCAST PRESENTS ROSE MCGOWAN: UNMASKED, UNFILTERED, UNFORGETTABLE
In this special episode of The Untitled Podcast, host Indira Cesarine sits down with actress, author, artist, and revolutionary force Rosa—formerly known to the world as Rose McGowan—for an unflinching conversation about survival, truth-telling, and radical reinvention.
Long before she became a lightning rod for cultural awakening, Rosa built a formidable career in Hollywood. She first broke onto the scene with fierce, genre-defining performances in The Doom Generation, Wes Craven’s Scream, Jawbreaker, and Devil in the Flesh, and later became a household name as Paige Matthews on the cult-hit series Charmed. Known for her fierce on-screen presence and unapologetic energy, she embodied the spirit of femme rebellion.
In 2018, with the release of her searing memoir BRAVE and her raw, self-directed docuseries Citizen Rose, she emerged not just as a survivor of Hollywood abuse, but as a catalyst for global reckoning. Recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the Silence Breakers, her fearless testimony became synonymous with the #MeToo movement, though in our exclusive interview, she clarifies, “It wasn’t mine. It was literally a picture frame stuck around my message.” For Rosa, her mission was never about hashtags—it was about dismantling systems of control. “My message was about cult-like thinking,” she says. “Because I grew up in one, and I know what it does.”
In her exclusive interview, out now in The Untitled Magazine’s inaugural ART Edition, “The Art Of Resistance,” and now live on The UNTITLED Podcast, she opens up about her extraordinary path—from growing up in a cult, to navigating abuse and misogyny in the entertainment world, to walking away from fame and building a life of radical self-expression as a multidisciplinary artist living in Mexico. “I never enjoyed being in the public eye,” she admits. “My joy was always making art and creating art. And I knew that as long as there was the specter of ‘Rose McGowan’—which isn’t even my real name—I couldn’t just be myself.”
Now living in the Yucatán jungle of Mexico, Rosa has reinvented herself as a multidisciplinary artist. “Nature kicked my ass,” she laughs. “But then I made friends with it.” Her new work embraces photography and video art featuring projected film, alchemical color fields, and audio captured on vintage equipment. “With women, strength is very often underestimated,” she says, describing her recent piece Water Lilies, featured in The Untitled Space’s 10th anniversary exhibition, UPRISE 2025. “They look delicate, floating on the surface. But underneath—there are deep, deep roots.”

“I just want to live a life that’s real. To be quiet. To listen to the trees and the wind. To create because I feel like it—not because someone let me.” – Rose (Rosa) McGowan
This return to The Untitled Space, where Rosa first debuted her art in the 2017 show UPRISE/ANGRY WOMEN, is more than a full-circle moment—it’s a powerful statement. That landmark exhibition, held on the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, included a powerful panel she co-hosted with Cesarine, “Art and Activism.” Rosa’s emotional revelations about abuse in Hollywood ignited vital dialogue around gender, power, and creative resistance—an early spark in a growing cultural revolution. “There is a war on women in this country,” she said at the time. “Make no mistake.”
As an artist, Rosa’s creative practice continues to evolve. “I perceive myself as Rosa, the soft version of me,” she says. “Not the one that had to put on battle armor to deal with multimillions of people and a lot of heavy forces.” Her work speaks not only to survival but to reclamation. In the candid UNTITLED Podcast episode, she shares how solitude, nature, and creative freedom have become central to her healing, and offers a powerful reflection on what it meant to her to reclaim her name, her voice, and her story.

Her message, now as ever, is one of radical permission. “Keep creating. Hold the line. And don’t be scared,” she tells us. “They want us to be scared. They want us to be small. So stand tall. Know that the wind is going to hit you. But guess what? You’re still going to be there afterward. You’re not going to blow to dust. I promise you.”
From the trauma of childhood erasure to the myth-making of Hollywood, from battling boa constrictors in the jungle to building a new artistic identity on her own terms—this is Rosa: unmasked, unfiltered, and truly unforgettable.
