Last season, Thom Browne gave us a beach party, this season he went for the polar opposite – literally. His FW’17 runway show at New York Fashion Week on February 15th transported show-goers to an arctic adventure land complete with precarious high heels, made to resemble ice-skates. On first glance the abundance of overcoats in grey tones made the collection seem quite serious but as the looks progressed, topsy turvy textile treatments, cartoonish graphics, argyle, and pops of primary color gave the show a Through the Looking Glass feel. That is, if Alice was in winter Wonderland and traded a neurotic rabbit for dapper penguins.
