2016 looks like it’s going to be a global year for girl power. February 26th, on the Milan runway, Donatella Versace put the focus on female empowerment, specifically the powersuit. The Fall/Winter Versace collection gave stylish career gals a whole new way to dress for success. Fashion forces such as Karlie Kloss, Adriana Lima, Jourdan Dunn, Gigi Hadid (who suffered a titillating wardrobe malfunction), and Kendall Jenner rocked Versace’s “Urban Glam” vision in graphic prints, striking coats, asymmetrical zippered skirts, and loud, matching separates.
Waves are big this season, Versace’s version was a jagged line courtesy of the fashion house’s print archives. The motif was present on the sides of jackets, across the front of mini dresses, and as sequin embellishments. In contrast to Versace’s usual killer stilettos, kitten heels anchored each look and were in step with the practical wardrobe of the everyday woman. Of the collection Versace stated, “fashion is not that important that it can change the world. But it can change the empowerment of the woman, in order to make her feel strong and believe more in herself.”
