It was a night to remember at this year’s 67th Annual Emmy Awards. This year’s awards ceremony was filled with emotional moments, laugh-out-loud moments, firsts, and all the glamour one could expect at a red carpet event. Whether Emmy viewers were crying, laughing, or clapping with joy, one thing was clear: women dominated this year’s Emmy Awards.
Although there has been a lot of commentary on whether women get the acknowledgment and respect they deserve in the film and television industry, this year seemed to take a step for women in the right direction. Guests such as Lady Gaga, Aubrey Plaza, Claire Danes, Amy Schumer, and Kerry Washington took command of the red carpet, modeling gowns by Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, and Prada.

And while these brilliant actresses took control of the red carpet, many other women nabbed the wins. Viola Davis became the first black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Female Actress in a Drama Series for How to Get Away With Murder. Amy Schumer nabbed an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Scketch Series for Inside Amy Schumer. Julia Louis-Dreyfus won an Emmy for Outstanding Female Actress in Comedy for Veep. Female actresses were not the only women to be recognized however. Jill Soloway won Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for Transparent and Best New Girl. Jane Anderson also won for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special for Olive Kitteridge.
From the glitz and glamour to the long list of well deserving wins, this definitely seemed to be a great night for the winners and the rest of the guests in attendance.
