This Monday, April 4th, the New York Academy of Art had their annual Tribeca Ball. Held at their 111 Franklin Street location, the fundraiser brought together a long list of artists, high-profile celebrities, philanthropists and gallerists to support the prestigious art school and view their M.F.A students’ work and private galleries. Presented by Van Cleefs & Arpels, this years event honored power couple Eva and Michael Chow, known primarily for their restaurant hot-spot Mr.Chow, the couple have been influencers and supporters of the art world for years. Founded in 1982 by Andy Warhol and other notable artists, the art, painting and sculpture graduate school continues to be recognized for training some of the most notable contemporary artists of our time. This years gala saw a new addition to the typical art fundraiser with “Funny Stuff” a new exhibit highlighting some of the levity and playfulness in the art world. Including works such as Monica Cook’s “Extra Body,” depicting the grooming rituals of a pair of Siamese twins conjoined at the head, “Tender” Jaclyn Brown’s spin on Tinder, and Sophia Kayafa‘s “Tears of Laughter”. True to its reputation, the New York Academy of Art continues to produce some of the most exciting contemporary artists of today. View some of the artwork from the evenings festivities.
