View Highlights from ADAA Art Show 2016 Gala Opening (31 Photos)

From March 2-6, The Art Dealers Association of America presented its 28th edition of The Art Show at the Park Avenue Armory during Armory Arts Week. A wide selection of work was shown at the show, spanning from the late 19th century to today. The 72 booths at the show were curated from over 100 proposals from ADAA member galleries.

On March 1st, ADAA opened the show with a Gala Preview to benefit Henry Street Settlement, a social service agency that challenges the effects of urban poverty by providing outreach at 17 program sites and in certain public schools and public housing developments. The foundation includes social services, workforce development, health care, and arts programs which continue Progressive reform, Lillian Wald’s commitment to provide access to the arts.

Highlights of The Art Show this year included a joint presentation by Marianne Boesky Gallery and Dominique Lévy Gallery of painting, drawing, and sculpture by Frank Stella, and at P.P.O.W., rare performance photographs by Carolee Schneeman were displayed. Three galleries featured 20th century African American Artists; Michael Rosenfeld Gallery presented the work of American modernist, Beauford Delaney; painter Bill Traylor, was featured at Betty Cuningham Gallery; and the 1970s oeuvre of McArthur Binion was exhibited at Galerie Lelong. Newcomers to the show, Hauser & Wirth, who are about to inaugurate a new Los Angeles space with a show featuring female sculptors, featured work by Modernist Italian sculptor, installation artist, and poet Fausto Melotti.
