On October 16, 2023, The New York Academy of Art hosted its celebrated annual event ‘Take Home a Nude’ art party and auction. Take Home a Nude raises essential funds for public programming and scholarships at the Academy supporting the next generation of artists. This year the Academy honored Pakistani-American LGBTQ artist Salman Toor at the 31st annual edition of the event. An emerging talent in the art realm, Toor portrays the narratives of queer brown men in today’s society using paintings that reveal touching stories, sometimes filled with humor or personal moments.
The event included silent and live auctions and ended with a seated dinner accompanied by Academy artists and live drawing models. Hundreds of guests from the film, media, fashion, art, and business industries attended the party, including Candace Bushnell, Will Cotton, Alan Cumming, Rose Dergan, Vincent Desiderio, Sante D’Orazio, Lynn Goldsmith, David Kratz, Padma Lakshmi, Doron Langberg, Jessica Lichtenstein, Damian Loeb, Reisha Perlmutter, Kimberly Pirtle, Walter Robinson, Scott Rothkopf, Kathy Ruttenberg, Brooke Shields, Salman Toor, Greg Unis, Joyce Varvatos, Justin Wadlington, Lauren Wittels, Untitled’s Indira Cesarine.
Over 200 artworks were sold to benefit the Academy’s programs, including work by Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Will Cotton, Alexis Rockman, and Kathy Ruttenberg, and the event raised over $650,000.
Through major exhibitions, a lively speaker series, and an ambitious educational program, the Academy serves as a creative and intellectual center for all artists dedicated to highly skilled, conceptually aware figurative and representational art.
This year’s Take Home A Nude event chairs were Alan Cumming, Glenn & Amanda Fuhrman, Scott Rothkopf, and Charles Stewart & Caterina Heil Stewart. Benefit committee members included Eileen Guggenheim & Russell Wilkinson, Brooke Shields & Chris Henchy, Padma Lakshmi, fashion designer Cynthia Rowley, Nicole Miller & Kim Taipale, Naomi Watts & Billy Crudup, Liev Schreiber, skincare brand owner Peter Thomas Roth, and historians Barbara Guggenheim & Alan Patricof, among others.
