The Untitled Space has announced a benefit art auction “Fahren Feingold Ethereal Legacy,” featuring paintings by the celebrated late artist Fahren Feingold raising funds for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to ending colorectal cancer. The auction showcases 80 unique watercolor paintings, including several new releases from the artist’s estate.
An online preview of the auction lots will be available starting 12 PM EST, June 19, 2024, with bidding live from June 20, 2024, 12 PM EST through June 30, 2024, 6 PM EST on untitled-space.art.
Proceeds from each artwork sold in the auction will be donated to The Colorectal Cancer Alliance in light of her untimely death from colon cancer in September 2023 at the age of 43.
The benefit auction features a vibrant collection of works on paper and panel by Feingold, who was renowned for her ethereal feminine watercolor paintings. Through fluid brushstrokes and her signature wet-on-wet technique, Feingold’s art emphasizes the female gaze, celebrating the beauty and complexity of the female form. The auction showcases Feingold’s evolution as an artist, from her early works inspired by vintage imagery to her later pieces that drew from her own photographs and personal connections with her subjects. Represented by The Untitled Space since 2017, Feingold’s work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, group shows, and benefits. Her art is part of many notable international collections and has captivated global audiences while sparking important discussions about the representation of women in art.
Feingold’s artistic journey was marked by a fearless exploration of the female form, challenging centuries of censorship and shaming surrounding the female body. From her early days, Feingold’s work stood out for its unapologetic depiction of the female nude, advocating for a more inclusive representation of women in art. Through her art, she gave voice to women of the past and present, exploring the complexities of female identity and the ongoing struggle for equality.
Feingold’s connection to The Untitled Magazine also ran deep. Her painting of Kate Moss graced the cover of the magazine’s ART issue, which was dedicated to all the incredible artists who have worked with the gallery and magazine. In an exclusive interview with The Untitled Magazine, Feingold shared not only her career trajectory and her inspirations, saying “Through my dreamy, elusive and multifaceted viewpoint, I explore deep emotion and beauty that I feel can be otherwise lost in the male gaze.”
Tragically, Fahren Feingold was diagnosed with colon cancer in July 2023 at the age of 43 and passed away on September 26, 2023, just weeks after her diagnosis, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, innovation, and empowerment. Her art continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, reminding us of the enduring power of the female gaze and the importance of continuing her fight for women’s equality and representation.
Colorectal cancer is the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S. and the second leading cause of cancer death. The American Cancer Society estimates 152,810 new cases and 53,010 deaths in 2024. Each year, about 150,000 Americans are diagnosed, and over 50,000 die from the disease, with a 1 in 24 lifetime risk.
However, it can be prevented with screening and is highly treatable when detected early. Current guidelines suggest that you should have your first colorectal cancer screening at age 45. However, the number of younger people who have been diagnosed and killed by the disease is steadily rising, with approximately 10% of cases occurring in those under 50. This group is experiencing a 1-2% annual increase, making colorectal cancer the deadliest cancer among young men and the second deadliest among young women.
The stigma surrounding colorectal cancer contributes to a lack of dialogue surrounding early screenings. The screening process is time-consuming, requiring individuals to follow a special diet and go under anesthesia. However, the high mortality rate tied to late detection of colorectal cancer makes the chore of getting screened well worth it. Fahren Feingold passed away eight weeks after her diagnosis; had it been detected earlier, her chances of survival would have dramatically increased.
To help create a dialogue surrounding colorectal cancer and contribute to the support of survivors, The Untitled Space is partnering with The Colorectal Cancer Alliance for this auction. The organization was founded in 1999 by 41 survivors, caregivers, and friends, and is the nation’s leading non-profit dedicated to ending colorectal cancer through advocacy for prevention, provision of support services, and acceleration of research, having invested over $5 million to date. With a passionate network of allies, the organization builds programs to support patients, increase screening rates, and guide thousands annually through patient navigation, working to eliminate this disease within our lifetime by raising awareness, promoting early detection, and funding innovative research to prevent and cure colorectal cancer.
Through this benefit art auction, The Untitled Space honors Fahren Feingold’s legacy and her unwavering commitment to empowering others through her art while raising awareness and funds to fight colorectal cancer. By celebrating her artistic vision and supporting this important cause, her artwork continues to make a lasting impact.
