Courtney Love
“And She’s Not Even Pretty” Exhibit
Fred Torres Collaborations New York
Singer actress, and now artist, Courtney Love unveils her series of 45 original works of art at Fred Torres Collaborations in New York City. During Tuesday’s press preview Courtney Love, cigarette in hand, explained that many of the works were created during 2011 & 2012, some even being produced just moments before the show. The works, mixed media on paper, read like journal entries, created in a frenzied moment of emotional outburst. Influenced by isolation, insecurities and rejection the pieces are both extremely personal and universal. The works, much like her music, are loud, aggressive and carry heavy feminist overtones. Love explained that the importance of mark making in the works, how her work has become more physically as she has progressed as an artist in the past year. Love later sited the avant garde and kitsch as influences on her choice to begin pursuing artworks.
The exhibit runs from May 3 – June 15.
