Art Basel 2024
The Grand Palais, Paris, France
October 18th-20th, 2024
Art Basel has announced the exhibitors and details of its 2024 edition. Art Basel Paris 2024 will be held from October 18-20, 2024, at the newly renovated Grand Palais in Paris, with VIP Preview Days on October 16-17. The show will feature 194 galleries from 42 countries, including 51 first-time participants and 64 French galleries.
The 2024 event introduces a new sector, Premise, and includes an ambitious public program across various locations in Paris. The initiative “Oh La La!” will highlight rarely-seen works from October 18-19 to energize the second half of the show.
Previously known as “Paris+ par Art Basel,” the renaming of the show to “Art Basel Paris” reflects a closer connection with the city’s cultural heritage and global stature in the art world. The rebrand enhances its identity and appeal both locally and internationally. This decision, made in consultation with local partners and cultural authorities including France’s Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, coincides neatly with the event’s move to the Grand Palais.
Known for its grandeur and architectural splendor, The Grand Palais is an iconic and historically significant exhibition venue in Paris. Inaugurated in 1900 for the Paris Universal Exposition, it has been a hub for cultural and artistic events for over a century. The building recently underwent three years of extensive renovations, making Art Basel Paris 2024 the first major event to be hosted in the space post-renovation.
Clément Delépine, the Director of Art Basel Paris, is leading the show for the third time. He has welcomed 40 additional galleries compared to the 2023 exhibit. Delépine has said,
“The impressive list of exhibitors participating in our 2024 show highlights the fair’s leading role as a dynamic platform for galleries, as well as Paris’ position as cornerstone of the global art market, bolstered by the city’s unparalleled offerings across the broader cultural field. Galleries are evidently prepared to bring exceptional works to the fair, and we look forward to creating the best possible environment for them, their clients, and our visitors. I am excited to welcome gallerists, artists, collectors, institutional representatives, and art enthusiasts to Art Basel Paris come October.”
Art Basel Paris 2024 aims to create a rich, engaging, and multifaceted art fair experience that caters to both the art world elite and the general public by organizing the event into well-defined sections and initiatives:
Galeries:
This section will feature leading galleries worldwide, showcasing modern and contemporary artworks. The 2024 edition includes influential artists such as David Zwirner (New York, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong, Paris) and Xavier Hufkens (Brussels).
Emergence:
This section, formerly known as “Galeries Émergentes” showcases radical works from emerging artists. 14 of the 16 booths are exhibiting at Art Basel’s Paris Fair for the first time and come from all over the globe. Emergence is partnering with the Galeries Lafayette group which will award an artist of the sector, and exhibit a new piece they produce the following year at Lafayette Anticipations.
Premise:
A newly introduced sector for the Paris edition, the Premise sector focuses on ambitious and large-scale projects. This sector is designed to present groundbreaking and innovative works that push the boundaries of traditional art displays.
Special Exhibitions and Installations:
Art Basel Paris will include various special exhibitions and site-specific installations within the Grand Palais as well as in multiple prominent locations across Paris. There will be talks, panel discussions, and performances to foster dialogue and engagement with contemporary art practices and themes.
