In a collaboration with Gossip singer, Beth Ditto, Jean Paul Gaultier is designing plus-size clothing for the first time ever. The limited edition collection, called Beth Ditto ♥ Jean Paul Gaultier, will contain pieces that go up to a 30, a size previously unheard of in the realm of high fashion. On December 15th, Ditto revealed the first item from the line—a t-shirt featuring front and back graphics of Gaultier’s iconic bullet bra corset with actual lace-up detailing. It is now available for sale on Ditto’s website, the rest of the collection will be available in February 2016. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Girls Rock Camp Foundation, a charity which helps send girls to music camps.
Ditto and Gaultier are longtime friends, she walked his runway in 2011 and donned one of his frocks to marry girlfriend Kristin Ogata two years ago. Of the collab, Gaultier stated, “Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super-beautiful! Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs, and bottoms.” Gaultier’s enthusiasm is contagious, we hope that Beth Ditto ♥ Jean Paul Gaultier paves the way for other high-end labels to create more encompassing sizes.
