This October, Sascha Wolf Gallery will present Bryan Schutmaat’s first monograph in a solo exhibition, Grays the Mountain Sends. This body of work explores the contrast and similarities of boys to men in the settings of small, working-class Western towns. “I’ve long been intrigued by the West – its geography, history, beauty, myths; those familiar things that make people feel that westward pull,” the artist states. The images in this series are rich in emotion, carefully dramatized with pastel, “overcast” hues, and tell a story that is unique to each observer.
Bryan Schutmaat is an American photographer whose work has been exhibited and published in the United States as well as other countries. Accompanying his exhibition is his published book, Grays the Mountain Sends, released in 2013.
