Chashama Gala
June 7th, 2018
4 Times Square, New York City
On June 7th, non-profit arts organization Chashama will return with its annual gala, an outrageous fundraiser and art party, at the former Condé Nast building at 4 Times Square in New York City. This year’s event will honor abstract painter Tony Bechara and IVY: The Social University, a company that offers arts and culture events in major cities across the United States.
“This isn’t your grandmother’s charity fundraiser,” Chashama founder Anita Durst says. Last year, the organization took over 30,000 square feet of space for a playground of interactive installations including a candlelit forest and various performance art pieces.
Durst founded Chashama in 1995 in response to the lack of affordable space for emerging artists in New York City. Since then, the non-profit has provided exhibition spaces for 15,000 artists by partnering with property owners to re-purpose dozens of unused spaces in communities across the city, upstate, and in Connecticut and New Jersey. All proceeds from the gala will go towards its mission.
