Marc Jancou Contemporary presents the opening of Mike Kelley, Selected Works: 1990-1995 on view through November 9, 2013.
Selected Works: 1990-1995 celebrates Kelley’s eclectic career as a multi-media artist. Focusing on sculpture and paintings on panel and paper, the exhibition presents several of Kelley’s bodies of work, including Missing Time, Center and Peripheries, and stuffed-animal sculptures. The show emulates past Kelley installations, taking advantage of the full gallery space.
Born in Detroit in 1954, Mike Kelley lived and worked in Los Angeles from the mid-1970s until his death in 2012. Working across all media, much of Kelley’s oeuvre derives from historical events, cultural phenomena, and psychological dynamics. The work included in the exhibition highlights the recurrent themes of nightmares, horror, dolls, and childhood found throughout the artist’s diverse body of work.
