SHIATZY CHEN – PARIS F/W 2012 RUNWAY
Chinese designer Shiatzy Chen’s F/W 2012/13 collection, Weaving a Dream, draws from the Miao culture of Southern China and Southeast Asia to inform Chen’s contemporary designs. The Miao people were culturally isolated for centuries, leading them to create forms of embroidery and totems that express their history and tradition. Chen weaves the Miao embroidery, met to represent the harmony between heaven and earth, throughout his collection, emphasizing his modern silhouettes and styles which are actually based on traditional designs. The looks are styled with big fur collars, black socks to the knee or ankle, and leather, flat-topped, brimmed hats. The luxurious silks were given structure and form thanks to clean tailoring, enhanced with a touch of glam from beading, lace, and and a vibrant color palette.
