The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) will celebrate the 2016 edition of The Photography Show, April 14 – 17, 2016, at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City. Eighty-six of the world’s leading fine art photography galleries from around the world will present a range of museum-quality work including contemporary, modern, and 19th century photographs, as well as photo-based art, video, and new media. One of the world’s most important annual photography events, The Photography Show presented by AIPAD, is the longest running and foremost exhibition dedicated to the photographic medium. The 36th edition of The Photography Show will commence with an opening night preview on April 13, 2016 from 5PM- 9PM. On Saturday, April 16th, there will be a full day of panel discussions featuring curators, artists, collectors, and journalists that are open to the public.

Highlights from this year’s show include photography covering a myriad of subjects. Weinstein Gallery of Minneapolis will exhibit a series of recent Tokyo portraits by Alex Soth, one of seven photographers chosen by The New York Times to contribute to their “Voyage” issue. At Oakland’s Richard Moore Photography, a newly discovered 1930s image by Tina Modotti from her Berlin exile will be on display. Ballerina, by Morton Bartlett will be shown at Julie Saul Gallery, New York. Bartlett photographed self-made lifelike plaster dolls; in 2018 his work will be shown at the National Gallery in DC, The Met, and LACMA. Acclaimed Korean artist, Jungjin Lee’s meditative landscapes will be on display at Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York. Catherine Edelman Gallery of Chicago will also show landscapes, including work by Daniel Beltra whose newest series documents melting glaciers and climate change. Another nature-centric series included at The Photography Show will be Day to Night, Stephen Wilkes’ ongoing projects depicting national parks in the United States and abroad, shown at Peter Fetterman Gallery, Santa Monica.

Nineteenth-century photography will be well represented at the show. At Hans P. Kraus Jr. Fine Photographs, The Garrison, Columbia River, a famous 1867 print by Carleton Watkins will be on display. Charles Isaacs Photographs, Inc. of New York will show Francis Frith’s images of ancient Egyptian culture from his 1857-58 journey. In the contemporary portrait category, at Foley Gallery of New York, Swiss born Henry Leutwyler will show photos taken while he had exclusive access to The New York City Ballet. Dutch artist, Teun Hocks’ self-portraits are also centered around performance. He will show at Paci Contemporary of Italy and is known for creating narrative images that situate himself within painted theatrical sets. Photojournalism will also be included at The Photography Show. Steve Schapio images taken during the 1965 Selma March will be shown at Santa Fe’s Monroe Gallery of Photography. Also from the 1960s will be a photograph of the moon from the Lunar Orbiter project in 1966. The print helped enable NASA to determine where it would be possible for man to land on the moon. It is from the collection of George Keene and will be shown by Charles Schwatz Ltd., New York.

Student admission: $20 with a valid student ID
