Grammy-nominated artist Tove Nillson, better known as Tove Lo, is making an impact in the new year. Along with the launch of her new single “Borderline,” accompanied by a grungy, cybertronic music video, she’s currently embarking on the North American leg of her 2023 headlining Dirt Femme Tour, which kicked off February 6th in Nashville.
The “Borderline” music video, directed by Brazilian director Nogari and shot in Mexico City, serves as the sequel to “No One Dies From Love,” named one of the Best Music Videos of 2022 by NYLON. The original song is featured on her fifth studio album Dirt Femme, which released late last year to critical acclaim.
“Borderline is a song about being on the edge of love,” says the outspoken Swedish pop artist. “The drama you cause inside yourself and with another person if you feel insecure. You test them.”
Tove Lo embodies every side of her femininity in her music, which is especially true of her latest releases. Powerful and lusty, her works are introspective and forthright, leading to massive successes like five times-platinum “Habits (Stay High)” and double-platinum “Talking Body.” A songwriter along with her vocal talent, she’s penned songs for artists from Lorde to Zara Larsson, along with co-writing Ellie Goulding’s five times-platinum “Love Me Like You Do” for Fifty Shades of Grey.
Slayyyter is providing support for her North American shows, which will continue with stops in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and more. Hangout and BottleRock will be some of the several music festival appearances she’ll make before embarking on her Latin American tour dates, with shows in Bogotá, Colombia and São Paulo, Brazil to name a few. Tove Lo will finish off her tour with European shows until late August, supported by Alma in Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, and more.
While on tour, Tove Lo will be playing songs off Dirt Femme, including fan favorites like “No One Dies From Love,” “2 Die 4,” “Grapefruit,” and the SG Lewis assisted “Call On Me” and “Pineapple Slice.” Dirt Femme, her first independent release, is Tove’s most confessional album to date, disguising raw confessions, memories, and experiences in dance-pop love anthems. To date, her 12-track album has amassed over 300 million global streams, earning her highest streaming day ever on Apple Music upon release.
“Honesty will wake emotion, so I love keeping the filters off. When you listen to Dirt Femme, I hope it makes you feel like dancing naked in the street and crying at the same time,” says Tove Lo. “That’s how it felt for me to write this. It’s every side of my femininity.”
