VENEXIANA – NEW YORK – SPRING / SUMMER 2013 FASHION SHOW
Designer Kati Stern (with her Louise Brooks bob and Sedgewick-thick eyeliner) proved that when it comes to Venexiana’s Spring/Summer 2013 line, sometimes fashion is just as much about sustainable style as it is about progressive design. Stern’s line had its eye on a spectrum of female needs, constantly bouncing somewhere between prom and Oscars. When the line went more in the direction of the former, it was always tightened with more elegant elements: delicate beading; feather details. And when the gowns went in the direction of the later, getting more Red Carpet-focused, Stern made sure to liven up the designs a bit, often opting for fully strapless gowns and metallic garnishes, making the designs seem both timeless and modern. The color scheme was almost exclusively in the evening wear family, with lavender, champagne, midnight blue and similar tones dominating the line. Janice Dickinson, the world’s first supermodel (a self-proclaimed title, mind you) was spotted front row, largely assessing the work of the supermodels strutting down the catwalk. Her attention was shifted, however, when the closing dress came down the line, a strapless pink and black checkered gown with crystal embroidery that brought everyone to their feet.
