Indira Cesarine of NYC gallery, The Untitled Space, and Coco Dolle of Milk and Night, will present a new show in collaboration with avant-garde design collective, threeASFOUR. Opening June 14th at The Untitled Space and running through June 20th, “Cardiac Insomniac: A Solo Show of Works by ANGE” is a one-woman-show of self portraits by ANGE (Angela Donhauser), who is well-known in both the art and fashion worlds for her work as a member of threeASFOUR. Curators, Cesarine and Dolle recently partnered for the presentation of the critically acclaimed exhibit, “In The Raw: The Female Gaze on The Nude,” which was an exhibit of 20 female artists and their intimate vision on the female nude. “Cardiac Insomniac” continues the curators’ work in presenting feminist artwork that examines the human condition through the perspective of women. While “In The Raw” presented a multiplicity of women-on-women views, “Cardiac Insomniac” will explore the vision of one female artist who turns the lens on herself. ANGE’S self portraits use drama and comedy to explore existential themes such as the human condition, gender identity, humanity, love, age, sexuality, pleasure & pain, society and race. Her photographic practice is an ongoing series of visual vignettes that captures the viewer with its oxymoronic, serious play of dress and undress. Of her work, ANGE states:
“I call my work ‘mood swinging’ which is a humorous self critique by going to the depths of human and feminine emotions and views on social and gender acceptance and personal freedom, I also call myself a ‘emotional activist’. My work is drama and/or comedy, a political statement or simply just visual poetry, either way it is there to provoke feeling and reflection. It’s about daily improvisations, on a human and artistic level, communicating with the world around me and questioning and exploring through inspiration everywhere. An artist’s responsibility is the integrity of truth and a certain rebellion and activism as a reflection to society and our ever shifting cultural paradigms.” – ANGE
While “Cardiac Insomniac” explores varying topics through the use of photography, ANGE’S images make it easy to see the artist’s connection with fashion. In one image the artist seems to bleed from body adornment made from razor blades while another piece shows her swathed in translucent fabric, whose suffocating nature is offset by the artist’s peaceful expression. The artist first rose to prominence as a member of NYC-based design trio, threeASFOUR who are known for using the medium of fashion to explore themes of life and to promote cultural crossings. Other members include Gabriel Asfour, and Adi Gil. In the eleven years since the collective’s beginning in 2005, their experimental work has been placed in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Musée de la Mode et du Costume in Paris. They have collaborated with Kate Spade and Gap and recently created a series of 3-D printed headpieces for famed experimental musician, Bjork.

Founded in 2014 by Indira Cesarine, The Untitled Space art gallery features an ongoing curation of exhibits of emerging and established contemporary artists exploring conceptual framework and boundary pushing ideology through mediums of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video and performance art.
