On May 8th New York City fashionistas and creatives joined founder of Gotham Cares, Ammar Moiz, along with the Médecins Sans Frontières and the International Rescue Committee for a gala fundraising benefit at Cipriani Ballroom in downtown Manhattan to raise funds for the Syrian refugee crisis. The chic crowd was joined by Seth Herzog who was Master of Ceremonies as well as Dr. John Lawrence, MD (President of the Board of MSF-USA). David Miliband (President & CEO of International Rescue Committee, former Foreign Secretary of U.K.) could not attend due to conflicting schedule was honored by actress Jackie Cruz who spoke about the positive effect Gotham Cares is making on the Syrian Refugee Crisis. Following Jackie Cruz, rapper and performer Mona Haydar (known from “Wrap My Hijab”) did a live poem reading about her experience as a muslim woman and daughter of Syrian immigrants. The live auction was a huge success, with actor Joseph Sikora bidding on many items throughout the night, including a Kimberly McDonald Ring. Guests enjoyed performances by Sofi Tukker and The Misshapes. Jackie Cruz and Akbar Hamid danced and enjoyed the performances with John Targon.
