HOUSING, NYC’S MIGRATORY GALLERY, FOCUSES ON CHICANO AND QUEER REPRESENTATION FOR 2019

Keijaun Thomas, Black Angels In The Infield: Dripping Faggot Sweat, HOUSING 2017

HOUSING with KJ Freeman
Thursday, May 2, 2019
6:30-8pm

ICI 401 Broadway, Suite 1620
New York, NY 10013
FREE and open to the public

On May 2nd Join ICI and KJ Freeman to talk about how HOUSING – a migratory, concept-based gallery in New York City – is thinking about defining and engaging with local communities and histories as they consider their next move. It is guided by a desire to stimulate public discourse through the work of artists and creative practitioners whose works show critical commentary and intent.

This program with HOUSING, considers the agency artists, curators and dealers may claim to shift access to and inclusion within cultural representation. This is also reflected from a historical perspective in ICI’s touring exhibition Axis Mundo: Queer Networks in Chicano L.A. Curated by C. Ondine Chavoya and David Evans Frantz, the exhibition shows the networks that connected Chicanx artists in Los Angeles interpersonally and from one group to another to shape the Chicano Art Movement that informs performance art, as well as queer aesthetics and practices today.
