Karl Lagerfeld created one of his signature high collars for a new exhibition in London entitled Brilliant, which is being held as part of the Masterpiece London Fair in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The exhibition will take place at the Royal Hospital from June 28 until July 27 and is curated by Vogue jewelry editor Carol Woolton. For the show, Lagerfeld designed what may be the most expensive shirt collar ever made. The one-off piece is made of metallic leather and features 40 carats of black diamonds that create a striped pattern around the neck, as well as a giant 22.33 carat emerald at the throat set in black rhodium-plated silver. The whole collar has been priced at around $45,400. Lagerfeld said, “I’m renowned for my love of a high collar and I wanted to create a true collector’s item with this one-off piece, merging the masculine with the feminine and uniting the world of fine jewellery and high fashion, to me this collar is a work of art and a real show-stopper.” After the collar is finished being on display, it will become available to the public for purchase, a percentage of the profits from which will be donated to the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent. In addition to creating this piece, Lagerfeld will also be donating a hand-signed sketch of his design to the museum which will also be for sale from Net-a-Porter.com beginning on June 20.
