“I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness,” she told Vogue, “It was just: I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me…I’ve been on my journey to find my true happiness ever since.”

In the same interview, she revealed that she had worked on the album with previous collaborators like co-songwriter Greg Kursten and producer Max Martin. The song’s music video, directed by filmmaker Xavier Dolan, was also released to great acclaim.

Fans have proven themselves to be rabid for the new material, as “Easy On Me” broke Spotify’s record for the most streams in a single day. The song was streamed over 24 million times in its first 24 hours, surpassing BTS’s song “Butter” as the previous record holder.

“Easy On Me” is now available to stream, and 30 will be available on streaming platforms, as well as on CD and vinyl, on November 19.
