On Valentine’s Day, exactly one year after the original, Caroline Polachek released the deluxe edition of her 2023 album–dubbed Desire, I Want To Turn Into You: Everasking Edition, featuring eight additional songs co-produced by A. G. Cook, Danny L. Harle, Ariel Rechtshaid, Cecile Believe, Jaime Brooks, and Samuel Organ.
Caroline Polachek is a critically acclaimed art-pop singer, having worked with the likes of Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens, among others. The Everasking Edition of Polachek’s album includes alternate versions of standard tracks, most notably ‘Butterfly Net,’ with a feature from fellow art-pop star Weyes Blood in addition to an acoustic version of ‘I Believe,’ a stirring ode to close friend and transgender icon SOPHIE, who passed away in 2021. Everasking Edition additionally has two covers. The first is a rendition of Operating Theatre’s ‘Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth,’ while the other is a quasi-cover of Default Genders’ ‘Pharmacoma,’ renamed as simply ‘Coma.’ The other new songs are ‘Meanwhile,’ ‘Gambler’s Prayer,’ and the previously released single, ‘Dang,’ from last October.
Last Wednesday, Polachek retroactively added the 2022 B-side ‘Long Road Home,’ a collaboration with Oneohtrix Point Never, to the deluxe edition tracklist.
Pitchfork praised ‘Dang’ as a “self-referential spectacle, that winks at her penchant for theatrics.” Fans have also particularly embraced Polachek’s cover of ‘Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth’ with enthusiasm.
