Christian Siriano is on his way to being a household name, complete with a high/low blend of high-profile customers (like Michelle Obama) and commercial collaborations. On Saturday, September 10th, his latest NYFW runway show made it easy to see why he possesses wide-ranging appeal.
Siriano debuted 52 looks and while they ran the gamut from simple silhouettes to over-the-top ball gowns, there was something glamorous for every personality AND body type. The former Project Runway contest is one of the fashion designers who is blazing the way for body acceptance, on and off the runway. Of his decision to use curvy models, he stated:
“We’re all in the world together, you know? And the models in the show who are ‘plus size,’ they’re not in a special place, they’re not wearing differently styled outfits. They’re just beautiful girls who are in the show, like normal. Everything’s normal. That’s how it should be!” -Christian Siriano
Siriano recently made headlines for creating a dress for Ghostbusters star, Leslie Jones, after she tweeted that designers were unwilling to dress her. Jones is now just one of the designer’s many celebrity fans.
Pamela Anderson, Neve Campbell, Jaimie Alexander, Christina Hendricks, Ashley Grahamce, Isabelle Fuhrman, Leigh Lezark, Kelly Osbourne, Coco Rocha, and writer and transgender activist, Janet Mock, all showed up to take in his new collection, which was inspired by vintage photos of Jackie O on holiday on the Isle of Capri. For those who can’t wait to go on vacation, four looks inspired by his runway collection are available online now.
