In celebration of the five year anniversary of the acclaimed traveling exhibition, “Contemporary Magic: A Tarot Deck Art Project”, a limited edition release of prints from the show will be offered exclusively on Paddle 8. The auction opened at 12PM on October 29th and will close at 12PM on Friday, November 13. A groundbreaking tarot reading game app will launch simultaneously and will include the exhibition catalogue, with artist bios and essays by Stacy Engman, who conceived and curated the exhibition.
The auction offers a rare opportunity to collect work from the important artists and creative masters in this special exhibition that has been shown in esteemed institutions including the Andy Warhol Museum, Salvador Dalí Museum and Virginia MoCA, amongst others. The print series features an array of work by today’s most iconic visionaries in interdisciplinary fields from around the world, such as Tracy Emin, Terence Koh, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Richard Phillips, Agathe Snow and James Turrell, amongst others. Each artist was matched with a specific Tarot card based on archetypical themes that his or her work references and each interpretation incorporates the artist’s iconography and corresponding themes in his or her artwork. The auction will benefit the traveling exhibition and support the placement of an anniversary print edition in the permanent collection at the Andy Warhol Museum where the show debuted and was featured alongside the Velvet Underground Tarot Cards film by Andy Warhol, and the artist’s own Tarot Deck.
The Tarot deck exhibition catalog, with essays by curator Stacy Engman, bios of the artists and actual Tarot card readings will be available on the first art exhibition video game app, enabled by notable game app maker, DOTS (the makers of the popular game Dots and TwoDots), in a pioneering collaboration with Engman.
Engman co-hosted with Terence Koh, an intimate Halloween dinner party with some of the participating artists at the National Arts Club on October 30th and 31st. The costumes were inspired by the Tarot card each artist created. A closing reception dinner co-hosted by curator Stacy Engman and Andy Warhol Museum Director, Eric Shiner, will take place on November 13th.
