Flash: Photographs by Harold Edgerton from the Whitney’s Collection
March 30, 2018
Whitney Museum of American Art: 99 Gansevoort St., New York
The pioneer of flash photography, Harold Edgerton’s contributions to the medium are indispensable. The Whitney will honor Edgerton with an exhibition of his works from the 30s through the 60s drawn entirely from the museum’s own collection. Though Edgerton himself hesitated to identify as an artist, his photographs—shots that harness the power of strobe lighting to capture high-speed phenomenon—are aesthetically striking and hold their own distinct space in art history.
