Alyssa Pheobus Mumtaz: Ghosts of the Great Highway
Tracy Williams, Ltd.
September 12-October 11, 2014
This September, Tracy Williams, Ltd. in New York will present Ghosts of the Great Highway, Alyssa Pheobus Mumtaz’s third exhibition with the gallery. This body of work, inspired by archaeology and the interior life of artifacts, reflect Mumtaz’s shift from cultural landscapes to modes of representation. Responding to her travels in South Asia, Europe, and the American west, her practice has become increasingly nomadic and seasonal. The result is a mix of abstraction and allegory, speaking graphically to the viewer. Mumtaz’s most recent work is based on mythological and cosmological analogies, meditating on the metaphysical symbolism of travel.
