July 15th – September 13th, 2015

The Cube Bermondsey gallery is presenting an exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist, Imi Knoebel in London from July 15th to September 13th. The exhibition, entitled ‘Inside the White Cube’ will feature a series of new and old acrylic paintings on an aluminum base, as well as group artwork made especially for the gallery space. Knoebel aims not only to awe the audience, but to create dialogue about form, color, and space.

Though this exhibit may spark conversation, the German artist’s work is well known for exploring aspects of color and form. Also known as a minimalist, Knoebel’s paintings and sculptures often utilized abstract forms and vibrant colors. He has previously showed his work at galleries around the world including the Reina Sofia, Madrid; MOMA, New York; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Broad Contemporary Art Museum, Santa Monica, and many others.

His Ort-Rosa, a well-known painting that will also be featured in the exhibit, uses pink panels to create semi-enclosure, giving the allure of a reflective and intimate zone. And in addition to his older work, the artist has introduced new group paintings which focus on geometric shaped panels and two to three colors that create a florescent effect for the audience.

Overall, the exhibit is expected to leave the audience with a feeling of open-endedness, which may be a reflection of his painting’s abstract features. Imi Knoebel’s artworks can be viewed at the gallery between Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10am to 6pm and on Sundays from 12pm to 6pm.
