On Monday, May 15th, Irish artist Robyn Ward premiered Walking in the Dark, the immersive, highly anticipated exhibition featuring 23 large canvases and six sculptures, each speaking to themes of Ward’s nomadic lifestyle, migration, and escapism. The exhibition is curated by Shai Baitel, artistic director of the Modern Art Museum in Shanghai, and marked the beginning of Frieze Week New York.
Walking in the Dark is set up throughout dark corridors with multiple headlights, reflecting the artist’s emotional journey through the dark areas of his subconscious. Its title was selected to describe Ward’s experience, and to convey the emotional intensity that characterizes his creative process.
