February 14 – March 15, 2016
Working in mediums such as poetry, sculpture, painting, artist’s books, printmaking, and film, Marcel Broodthaers was able to reveal the function of art in society with his work. For the first time, an exhibition of his work will come to New York, at The MoMA from February 14 to March 15 2016. Showcasing the trajectory of his work, the pieces at the exhibition will be pulled from many points in his life to highlight how he has influenced artists of today.
Broodthaers was a poet for 40 years before taking his creative side to other mediums. The Belgian artist who lived from 1924 to 1976, made visual works that often referenced his poetic roots. After it’s month stay in New York, the exhibition will travel to Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS), Madrid, in October 2016, and to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen (KNW), Düsseldorf, in early 2017.
