New York Academy of Art’s highly anticipated Take Home a Nude art auction and party will take place on October 15th at Sotheby’s in New York City. Take Home a Nude 2015 will honor early board member and supporter of the Academy, novelist Tom Wolfe, and longtime Academy supporter, art critic Jerry Saltz. In recognition of Instagram’s game-changing effect on the art world, the theme of the evening will be “Celebrating Instagram.”
Annually, this event brings together over 750 guests from the worlds of media, fashion and the arts to raise scholarship funds for the Academy’s roster of talented artists. It has become one of the most celebrated evenings on the New York social calendar. This year’s event chairs are Maureen Chiquet of Chanel, Sharon Jacob and literary agent Luke Janklow, joined by junior chairs, artist and model Tali Lennox and Instagram superstar Leandra Medine.
Starting at 6pm, the lively evening includes cocktails, a silent auction, a live auction and dinner. As a nod to honoree Tom Wolfe, guests will be wearing white and Instagrammable elements will include a “selfie station.” The silent and live auctions will feature over 150 lots from both emerging and celebrated artists like John Alexander, Will Cotton, Vincent Desiderio, Yoko Ono, Philip Pearlstein, Enoc Perez, Kiki Smith, and Billy Sullivan.
The night of the event, artist Ryan McGinness will be unveiling a special art piece conceived in the medium of Instagram. The piece, entitled “InstagrAM,” was created over a period of several years, one Instagram post per day.
