NYFW IN THE TIMES OF CORONAVIRUS: WHO’S SHOWING AND WHO’S SKIPPING?

As the official organizer for NYFW, the CFDA has announced the New York Fashion Week schedule for September 2020, taking place from the 13th-16th — two days short of the usual five.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on American fashion, slowing down the supply chain and temporarily shutting down many business operations and brick-and-mortar retail. To address the concerns of the fashion industry, we created the innovative RUNWAY360 digital platform which allows brands the flexibility to show their collections in a variety of formats and at a time that works for them, and engages domestic and international press, consumers, and retailers, most of which are not currently able to travel to New York,” their press release reads.

RUNWAY360 will be an ongoing business tool for brands to use, complimenting physical events and shows in the future. The CFDA will continue to support designers through the platform at any time of the year that they choose to show their collections. Designers will be able to present their collections, providing each participating brand with a modular, customizable page for their storytelling and digital activations. The portal will support AR/VR, 360-degree capabilities, live video streams, e-commerce extensions, consumer shopping features, and social media integrations. The hub allows designers to host virtual press conferences, and present press kits and show and product images, for example.

The Official NYFW Schedule launches on Sunday, September 13th, with Jason Wu and Harlem’s Fashion Row’s virtual fashion experience, and concludes with Tom Ford on Wednesday, September 16th. Returning designers and brands include Alabama Chanin, Alice + Olivia, Anna Sui, Badgley Mischka, Bibhu Mohapatra, Carolina Herrera, Chromat, Claudia Li, Dennis Basso, Eckhaus Latta, Jonathan Simkhai, Marchesa and Marchesa Notte, Marina Moscone, Naeem Khan, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Minkoff, Veronica Beard, and Zero + Maria Cornejo.

Ten names are new to the schedule: Aknvas, Anne Klein, Colleen Allen, Dur Doux, Duncan, Frederick Anderson, Frère, Imitation of Christ, Oak & Acorn, Venicew, Wiederhoeft, and Wolk Morais. New York Men’s Day (NYMD) will also return to the Official NYFW Schedule and showcase 10 menswear designers including CFDA members David Hart and Timo Weiland.
