Ryan McGinley: Yearbook
Team (gallery, inc.)
September 7-October 12, 2014
On September 7, Team (gallery, inc.) will present their sixth solo show by Ryan McGinley, showcasing his ongoing project, Yearbook. This body of work consists of over two hundred photographs of nude models, printed on vinyl and attached to the walls and ceiling of the space. Because of the collage-effect, being inside of the installation is an experience in itself, abundant with unifying, vivid colors and organic, bodily forms. “Each individual piece functions autonomously, granting the viewer access to a delicate, once-private moment.” Ryan, who is notable for photographing current-day socialites (such as Petra Collins), reflects on his view of our current visual culture through his work. Although his images are the rooted in traditional, nude photography, he transforms a contemporary aesthetic into his unique vision, while revealing the personalities of each individual.
Within the past ten years, 36-year old Ryan has exhibited his work in solo and group shows at The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Kunsthalle in Vienna, MUSAC in Léon, MoMA Ps1, San Francisco Museum of Art, MoCA, The Brooklyn Museum, and more. Yearbook is a show you shouldn’t miss!
