Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars, The Descendants) and Theo James (Golden Boy, Underworld: Awakening) reprise their roles for the second time in the big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth’s New York Times bestselling dystopian, young adult novel series.
Directed by Robert Schwentke (Insurgent, The Time Traveler’s Wife), The Divergent Series: Allegiant follows Beatrice “Tris” Prior (Shailene Woodley) and Tobias “Four” Eaton (Theo James) as they venture into the world outside of the fence and are taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.
Other recurring cast members include Ansel Elgort (The Divergent Series: Insurgent, The Fault in Our Stars) as Caleb Prior, Zoë Kravitz (The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Christina, Miles Teller (Whiplash, Fantastic Four) as Peter Hayes, Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, Dumb and Dumber) as David, Naomi Watts (King Kong, Mulholland Drive) as Evelyn Johnson-Eaton, Octovia Spenser (Fruitvale Station, The Help) as Johanna Reyes, Ray Stevenson (Divergent, Thor: The Dark World) as Marcus Eaton, Maggie Q (Nikita, Live Free or Die Hard) as Tori Wu, and Keiynan Lonsdale (The Finest Hours, The Divergent Series: Insurgent) as Uriah Pedrad.
Also, joining the cast for the first time will be Bill Skarsgård (Anna Karenina) as Matthew and Nadia Hilker (Spring) as Juanita “Nita.”
With a screenplay by Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The Maze Runner) and Adam Cooper (Exodus: Gods and Kings, Accepted) & Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings, Accepted) and Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Rent), The Divergent Series: Allegiant is based on the 2013 novel Allegiant by Veronica Roth, the third and final installment in her Divergent trilogy.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant’s behind the scenes creative team includes director of photography Florian Ballhaus (Insurgent, The Devil Wears Prada), production designer Alec Hammond (Insurgent, Non-Sop), film editor Stuart Levy (Insurgent, Foxcatcher), and costume designer Marlene Stewart (Oblivion, Tropic Thunder), with a musical score composed by Joseph Trapanese (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, TRON: Legacy).
Like AMC’s smash-hit television series The Walking Dead, which is currently in its sixth season, The Divergent Series: Allegiant was shot in Atlanta, Georgia.
Distributed by Summit Entertainment, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, a Red Wagon Entertainment, Lionsgate and Mandeville Films production, is scheduled to hit theaters in the United Kingdom on March 10, 2016 and later in the United States on March 18, 2016.
