Beginning next year in 2015, Uniqlo, the Japanese retailer, will offer scholarships to Japanese students studying at Harvard Business School and Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Approximately $1.2 milion dollars have been allotted for this project; but only one fellowship will be awarded per school, for three years, which means there’ll be six lucky Japanese students in the near future! In addition to the scholarships, fellowship recipients will also have the opportunity to intern at Fast Retailing, the company that owns Uniqlo. In the press release for this project, Fast Retailing’s president and CEO Tadashi Yanai declared that, “Innovation lies at the intersection of design and business management. I look forward to seeing talented young people from Japan transform their aspirations into reality on the global stage.” Uniqlo will also be opening six new stores in Boston late this fall.
