BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW WITH DESIGNER VIVIENNE TAM BY INDIRA CESARINE
Vivienne Tam presented her Spring 2015 collection on September 7, 2014 in the Theatre at Lincoln Center. Inspired by the decorative treasures of the Ming and Qing dynasties housed in the Forbidden Palace, such as pictorial porcelains depicting otherworldly landscapes and scenes from nature, the collection draws upon rich textures of lacquer, pearl inlays and cloisonné amped up in technicolors such as cobalt blues, intense greens and super saturated corals, expressed through prints, laser cut appliqués and embroideries on power mesh and textured cotton. Rendered in both natural and hi-tech materials, the collection pairs flowing silhouettes with strong, structured pieces, reflecting a free spiritedness and strength – in a modern context, the urban woman amidst nature, harnessing its power and intensity — relevant in all worlds.
