Artists, socialites and fashion industry giants gathered in New York City at the Whitney Museum last Tuesday, November 14th for its annual Art Party and dinner. Model-actress Ashley Graham and sculptor and performance artist Raúl de Nieves co-chaired this year’s pre-Art Party dinner and musical artists Young Paris (the newest signee to Jay Z’s Roc Nation) and The Misshapes put on special performances. The Art Party itself was hosted by “Girls” star Zosia Mamet, model Natasha Poly, Oscar de la Renta creative team Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, Vanity Fair fashion director Michael Carl and celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger.
Notable attendees included actress Nina Dobrev, designer Timo Weiland, stylist Ktate Young and artist Joe Bradley, who also created a limited edition lithograph for the Art Party that was on view for the duration of the event.
Guests browsed the museum’s fall exhibitions, which were on view for the entire evening: Laura Owens, Jimmie Durham: At the Center of the World, Toyin Ojih Odutola: To Wander Determined, An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940-2017 and Where We Are: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1900–1960.
Proceeds from the Art Party will provide critical support to the renowned Independent Study Program, one of the country’s leading post-graduate programs in studio art and curatorial or critical studies. The program is at the heart of the Whitney’s mission to support living artists throughout their careers.
