From July 1st to July 4th, the Spring/Summer Berlin Fashion Week 2024 unfolded at the Brandenburg Gate with over 28,000 guests in attendance from around the world. Berlin Fashion Week is hosted bi-annually, with the first show occurring in February and the second in July. This year’s fashion week featured 35 shows and a plethora of large and small events. Under the theme “The responsible movement of freedom, inclusion, and creativity,” Berlin Fashion Week has once again cemented itself as a global fashion capital.
With a mix of historical architecture and modern innovation, Berlin presents itself as a diverse melting pot. The various collections presented were boundary-pushing, reminiscent of Berlin itself. Here are some of the standouts from Berlin Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024.
Claudia Skoda
Esteemed Berlin designer Claudia Skoda unveiled her new collection of knitwear. The show began with projections of Skoda’s previous designs, allowing patrons and fashionphiles to witness her creative evolution in real time.
Skoda’s SS24 collection perfectly blends comfort with gracefulness and ease. By combining body-hugging silhouettes with flowing fabrics, her pieces exude effortless beauty. Marcel Ostertag
The Berchtesgaden-born designer Marcel Ostertag explored his London ties within his SS24 collection. Before he transitioned to the fashion world, Ostertag was a professional dancer in the city of dreams. He then became a model but eventually moved back to Germany to further pursue his fashion endeavors.
This collection is bold, despite the pastel color palate, and mixed with business casual. An abundance of pantsuits, opulent prints, and decals meshed with playful cutouts and cropped blouses are a consistent theme. Through this collection, Marcel Ostertag encourages the melding of playfulness and sophistication with his signature vibrancy.
Maximilian Gedra
Maximilian Gedra is no stanger to reslience. Her SS24 collection perfectly embodies the strength of the human form by breaking down gender barriers within fashion. The brand was founded in 2023 with the sole purpose of presenting timeless fashion for the past, present, and future.
This collection is no different. The use of leather and complex shapes and silhouettes is reminiscent of the fashion trends pioneered by Berlin but with a maximalist monochromatic arthropod-ic twist. Through her almost other-worldly designs, Maximilian Gedra has cemented herself as an up-and-coming fashion legend.
Marlon Ferry
This collection is Marlon Ferry’s catwalk debut and does not disappoint. By melding dark couture with industrial technology, with a hazy runway show reminiscent of factory smoke, Ferry’s SS24 collection makes a lasting impact on the world of Neo-Fashion. This German native is making his mark by taking inspiration from avant-garde streetwear and AI.
This collection is unapologetic in its usage of technology. Various pieces were crafted via 3D printing and AI all while combining elements of virtual fashion. The use of rapidly developing technology is translated into an amalgamation of practical fashion and high art. Ferry’s debut collection encourages viewers to grapple with rapidly accelerating technology and how it will affect the fashion world for years to come.
