On the evening of Thursday, September 21st, Apne Aap, a non-profit organization aimed at putting an end to sex trafficking, presented “Women Worldwide,” a fundraiser in honor of actress and humanitarian Ashley Judd, feminist activist and abolitionist attorney Dorchen Leidholdt, and gender equality activist and Apne Aap director Mona Sinha. The event, which was held at The Cosmopolitan Club Ballroom, was hosted by feminist writer and activist Gloria Steinem. From 6:30 to 9:30 PM, guests watched Maemae Dylan’s short film Call to Action by Girls For The Last Girl, and Indian actress Dipti Mehta’s live one hour performance “Honour : Confessions of a Mumbai Courtesan.”

Apne Aap’s objective in hosting the event was to raise awareness about child prostitution and child trafficking. The organization’s goals include providing legal assistance for victims of sexual abuse in India, educating and empowering children through Apne Aap’s centers, and providing women with safe income opportunities. Guests in attendance included a myriad of activists and humanitarians including actresses Gina Gershon and Rosanna Arquette, artists Vibha Galhotra and Indira Cesarine, and the former head of UNICEF Stephen Lewis.
