The City of Angels is gearing up to host its annual Frieze Los Angeles in Santa Monica, a new location for the international art fair, from February 16th–19th, 2023. Also returning to Los Angeles this month are the celebrated satellite art fairs SPRING/BREAK Art Show and Felix Art Fair from February 15th–19th, each featuring new works from an extensive roster of emerging and established artists from around the world.

This year, Frieze will return with two site-specific strands of programming that draw inspiration from the fair’s new location at Santa Monica Airport: Now Playing, an onsite collaboration with Art Production Fund, and an expanded series of projects installed at culturally significant sites across the city entitled Against the Edge.

Now Playing features a series of artworks curated to reflect the everyday realities of life in Los Angeles, from the street food to the vehicles to the sports. Participating artists include Autumn Breon, Chris Burden, Jose Dávila, Basil Kincaid, Divya Mehra,
Ruben Ochoa, Alake Shilling, and Jennifer West. Each provides a unique insight into the ever-present details of the beloved city that often go overlooked or entirely unseen to many. Now Playing is supported by Art of Recovery, an initiative of the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs.

Curated by Jay Ezra Nayssan and Del Vaz Projects, Against the Edge will take place across various culturally significant sites that have remained an essential part of the history of contemporary art in Los Angeles. Each location features an artist’s work juxtaposed with the setting in which it is displayed, bringing narratives ranging from exile to liberation to light.
