Katy Perry has announced that her sixth studio album 143 will be released on September 20 through Capitol Records. The first single, “Woman’s World,” and the accompanying music video will debut July 11 at 7 p.m. ET. The album is packed with the empowering, provocative pop anthems that made Perry famous over a decade ago.
According to Perry, the number 143 serves as an expression of love throughout the album. “I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album,” Perry said in a press release. This comes after a revival of dance pop due to new music from dance pop legends including Dua Lipa, Charli XCX, and Tove Lo.
The press release describes “Woman’s World” as a “powerful celebration of womanhood,” written by Perry alongside songwriter Chloe Angelides and producers Dr. Luke, Vaughn Oliver, Aaron Joseph, and Rocco Did It Again!.
Despite the buzz surrounding the album, some of Perry’s fans have expressed disappointment online over Dr. Luke’s involvement on 143. The producer made headlines for his nine-year legal battle with Kesha, in which she alleged that Dr. Luke sexually assaulted her. He vehemently denied the allegations and sued Kesha for defamation. The two parties reached a settlement in July 2023.
Actress Abigail Breslin said on X that Perry’s collaboration with Dr. Luke “contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent shit and get away with it.” Others called Perry hypocritical for collaborating with the controversial producer on a song whose lyrics discuss themes of female empowerment and divine femininity.

Still, Perry continues to promote the album. The music video for “Woman’s World” will make its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, mtvU, MTV’s Biggest Pop, and the Paramount+ Times Square billboards. During Paris Fashion Week 2024, the singer stepped out wearing a Heather Picchiottino mini dress with a train that had the lyrics to “Woman’s World” printed on it. She will headline Rock in Rio in Brazil on September 20, which coincides with the release of 143.
The biggest-selling female artist in Capitol history, Perry has racked up 115 billion streams since her debut with the label in 2008. Six of her singles, including “Firework,” “Dark Horse,” and “Roar,” and one album, “Teenage Dream,” earned RIAA Diamond status. In addition to her musical career, Perry created an eponymous shoe line and served as a judge on American Idol for seven seasons.
