October 17—21, 2018
16 Rue Alfred de Vigny
75008 Paris
Paris Internationale art fair is shifting the lens towards young galleries. The fourth edition, which is sponsored by Gucci. started on October 17th. The fair aims to erase the market discrepancies that come with currency and seniority in the art world. “This is where we want to be, in an art fair that really champions young galleries and young artists,” said artist Charine Karam at last year’s event.
In an effort to make it more personal and private, there will only be 42 presenters, which is about a dozen less from last year. “By keeping the group of participants reasonable”, said Silvia Ammon co-director of the fair, “visitors can engage in a proper conversation with all the gallerists.”
Ten of the exhibitors are new to the event—including Damien & the Love Guru (of Brussels), Isabella Bortolozzi (Berlin), and Southard Reid (London). All told, 21 countries are represented. The location also represents a shift from the 2017 outing in an industrial building in the Haut-Marais and marks a return to the original feel of the fair, which staged its first two editions at hôtels particuliers in the French capital.
Paris Internationale was established in 2015 as an innovative alternative to traditional art fairs and with the goal to support a young generation of galleries. In only three editions, it has developed into a vital instrument for promoting the work of emerging artists and rediscovering more established figures.
PROGRAM
CONVERSATION PIECE I
“Conversation Piece I”, a public program of discursive events to take place within Paris Internationale was conceived and coordinated by The Performance Agency, a Berlin-based platform founded in 2017 with the aim of investigating genre-crossing possibilities and bringing together personalities from different fields to enact new performative happenings.
For the 4th edition of the fair, The Performance Agency brings the magnified skirt of Marie Antoinettento Paris. Created by Maria Loboda as a stage, changing room and hideaway for participants of the performance festival Mass X in Berlin — in collaboration with Archivio Conz and Supportico Lopez — the structure of the ballgown now functions as a public pavilion for a series of private conversations to take place under the skirt, in the comfort and privacy of the Boudoir: The Performance Agency invites the audience to meet and hold one-on-one conversations with a series of experts across the fields of art, politics, performance, medicine, diplomacy, journalism, technology and finance, as a testament to the conversation’s deep and singular transformational potential.
“Conversation Piece I” is open between Thursday 18 and Sunday 21, from 3pm until 8pm. The entire program is taking place on the ground floor.
