Santiago Calatrava: On Park Avenue
Presented by the Marlborough Gallery
Exhibition on view between 52nd and 55th Streets, NYC
June 8 through Nov. 15 2015
June 8th marked the unveiling of Santiago Calatrava‘s open air exhibit On Park Avenue. Calatrava, the internationally renowned neofuturist architect and structural engineer, has created seven new red, black, and silver painted aluminum sculptures that were installed along the central median of Park Avenue. In the artist’s own words, “their relation to the natural world suggests a link between man and nature, implying the sculptures are found objects in a human forest.”
Heralded as the “artist architect’, Calatrava also does sculpture and painting. He has had a number of exhibits at museums across the world, including the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the Vatican Museum in Rome, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (entitled Santiago Calatrava: Sculpture Into Architecture in 2005), and more recently, at Marlborough Gallery in NYC.
